Self long recommended Australia day be changed to when Australia was created AND celebrated.

When Queen Victoria signed the Australian Constitution Act on 9 July 1900, the establishment of Australia was legally approved to commence, with the Australian Constitution out ‘supreme law’ under which our Commonwealth government operates came into force when the date changed to 1 January 1901.

When the date changed to Tuesday, 1 January 1901 the Federation of Australia, the six separate colonies publicly became united into the nation of Australia, our ‘official’ birth.

The earlier decision was to ensure Australian's who celebrated the end of 1900 and the new year of 1901 there was a sensible decision to enable everyone to recover to really enjoy the celebrations for Australia the nation.

Earlier it had been agreed the celebrations for our new nation of Australia was to commence at noon (NSW time) on Tuesday, 1 January 1901 to ensure everyone could enjoy the events.

IMHO this consideration ensured the celebrations showed a simple rational Australian pleasing decision...

Let us all celebrate the same way each 1 January.
