I don't think it was out of step with public opinion at all.

there was a vocal group of hand wringing idiots that swarmed to his Facebook page thanking him. for "keeping us safe".

in the real world, apart from rusted on leftists and people on job keeper who benefited from substantial increases during COVID and did a lot better than what they would have done waiting tables, most people disagreed with lockdowns.

Daniel Andrews is the most incompetent premier this country has ever seen. 7 lockdowns, two years of border closures, countless inquiries and now he has effectively bankrupted Victoria.

it says a lot about Victoria or the lack of an effective opposition this bloke crawled his way back into office. the reality is, he did it on a lie. he knew he was broke at the election, told no one and double downed in his big build commitments.
