    what most Australians don’t realise is

    .. it is only compulsory to turn up to an authorised voting place .
    Once your name is marked off as having shown up you can simply walk out without casting a vote and no one has the right to stop you
    You are Not legally obliged to place a completed ballot in a ballot box
