Lots of opinions here and I can only add my experience. I do a lot of cycling and a few years ago I was getting really bad cramps in the calf muscles. Got so bad it was painful to walk up a long flight of stairs. I started taking magnesium tablets and this had a small effect. These contained magnesium oxide which is not all that well absorbed. Did a search and found that there are better more readily absorbed forms of magnesium. I now take magnesium citrate either as a powder or tablet dissolved in water. Take 300mg every couple of days and no longer have any cramps.
