Musharraf is posturing for the benefit of his anti-US populace who are looking at him closely over Bhutto's death.I note here that he just refused to consider a UN inquiry into her death??
We know that the dear chap holds power by virtue of his military, who are in turn well paid and armed courtesy of the $squillions of US aid money. Without this US backsheesh he wouldnt be able to keep his troops happy and his power within the country would disappear. Thus it is unlikely he would do anything to cheese the US off. The US needs him & he needs them. But his tenure is becoming increasingly shaky since Bhutto's death. So who killed her? AlQaida? They always conveniently get the blame, and in this instance they deny complicity.Other militants? Unlikely. Remember, they are only militants because they oppose Musharraf and want democracy, which Bhutto promised to bring. So why kill her?
Bhutto came home under US sponsorship to "power-share" with Musharraf and give some semblance of legitimacy to his government after the elections. That was "Plan A".
But when Musharraf started arresting his opposition before the elections, the gloves came off and she declared her aim of full democracy for Pakistan........without any powersharing with Musharraf. This would have cheesed him off, but his US masters more so.......she broke their agreement. Most Pakistanis have figured out the who and why by now, but I guess he still has to put up a front.......
