    Intel01, Moosey is totally correct about Mach 5/50. That is the principle, and it does result in rail-gun type of velocities. The only other technologies that approach this capability are rocket propelled sabot rounds, and gas guns (which are highly experimental and it's difficult to control the burn in order to achieve reliable outcomes).
