The link below takes you to a PDF called The Canadian Small Arms R & D Landscape A DRDC Perspective, it is written by Mr Paul Harris, the very same person who wrote about the Canadian ICW and the involvement of Metal Storm and Colt Canada, that was the document that Oneclip found, we weren't told a thing about it by Metalstorm until Oneclip forced their hand, pretty bloody poor effort by metalstorm IMHO.
Have a look at page 12 Under the heading of Electronically Controlled Weapons and Ignition Systems, look under some of the Potential Advantages using conventional ammunition, this means that they intend to use conventional ammo but fire them electronically, you will notice the third dot point says "possibility of Recoil Management" by Optimizing firing RATE/TIME, notice that they haven't mentioned venting or pressure relief once! what they are saying is that the recoil management will come by varying the firing rate versus time!

It hasn't changed changed the laws of physics as such, but perhaps it has given a much better perspective by doing something that hadn't been seen or done that fast before.
