Found this on mining.com,  just a bit of food for thought…

Tesla is open to buying a mining company if producing its own supply of electric vehicle (EV) metals would speed up worldwide adoption of clean energy technologies, Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk said on Tuesday.

Concern is mounting across the EV industry that there may not be enough supply of lithium, nickel, copper and other metals to match demand later this decade, fueling questions about whether Tesla would consider jumping into the mining sector.

“It’s not out of the question,” Musk told the FT Future of the Car 2022 conference. “We will address whatever limitations are on accelerating the world’s transition to sustainable energy. It’s not that we wish to buy mining companies, but if that’s the only way to accelerate the transition, then we will do that."

I guess we should open a discussion on hostel takeovers something that would be very difficult to accomplish with Lynas and expensive for any prospective suitor including Elon. The biggest problem Musk or anyone else will encounter is trying to acquire Lynas stock on the open market. As a stock, Lynas has been trading for years and is now well distributed amongst many different shareholders. (My nephew owns a few shares and he has bought some for his newborn)...

It is difficult in a hostile takeover to accumulate enough shares without garnering attention and seriously moving the price. The acquisition becomes easier if large share lots (ie institutional ownership) are available but it would appear that the ownership is well balanced and once again, well distributed.   Additionally, anyone buying on the open market will have to report significant ownership thus from what I can see Lynas would be a very difficult takeover target.  That said I am sure Amanda has considered a “poison pill” strategy which is probably not warranted at this time...

In any event it is very encouraging to see Elon take a personal interest in the critical materials that will fund his vision for the future.  While it is highly unlikely, the focus and attention may move to Lynas and if this occurs it could be a good day to be a Lynas shareholder...  JMHO...
