People in different parts of the world do practise the same religions in different ways.
For example in the Middle East muslim women keep themselves covered up and are poorly educated, but in Russia muslim women frolic at the beach in brief bikinis, are well educated and generally lead western style lives.
Similar differences can be found in followers of all religions and quite often countries which follow the same religion have wars with each other.
It is the extreme fundamentalists who actually take religion seriously that adopt the hard line policies and cause most of the damage.
