When we think about Australia going downhill it may be because the tend to remember the good things but forget the bad things.
IMO Australia is not going downhill as we are enjoying much prosperity--people have many luxuries and the safety net if disabled or unemployed is in place.
People do not want to leave Australia because we have freedom of speech, we can move around without any hassles and we have a lot of public holidays among many other benefits.
Europe is changing in its own way and we cannot compare ourselves to such places that have a different history and geography.
Maybe we should compare Australia to Asian countries and in some ways we are falling behind, but only a small number would say they would rather live in China or Malaysia.
