I have often considered the merits of say a vanadium battery. A single unit that if it fails....integrity is lost
Then a stack of 10kw, interchangeable, batteries that a single unit can be taken off line and replaced, as you say 100 batteries. 100 units to electrically balance.
Then the Lithium, composed of countless 18650 cells, arranged in packs. Balancing the cells within the pack, then balancing the packs.
When considered, to me the 10kw unit is the less complex and most reliable.
