I think the size ( KWh) of the battery was carefully chosen to fit in with the anticipated demand ie households and the telecom markets. It is the smallest flow battery and isreasonably light ( handled with a small hiab type crane and pallet lifters ) the existing stack produces 48 v which is what the telecoms seem to like.
Most importantly 10 KWh matches Tesla’s battery
if bigger tanks were used how would that affect the maintenance schedule? would the stack need to be increased in size?
People have commented on the pumps being a possible source of failure - if this is indeed a problem then it’s a simple fix to add a couple of pumps and solenoids and an additional step or two in the programming and this would be solved. Next time the system phones home it tells them it’s sick and scheduled maintenance is ordered.
vanadium flow batteries are best in big installations - hybrid flow batteries are best in smaller applications
