Labour market is a short term problem IMO. Those that have left will have either retired/semi-retired or they will return to the workplace at some stage once they've had there vacay. Unless your pockets are lined with 'old money' or you're in that top 1% you will need to go back to work to earn money. Majority of jobs on the market that employers are struggling to fill with the necessary skills and experience would be for people that aren't in that top eshelon.
Countries with ageing populations may be worse off.
Reality is it's shifted the power dynamic more toward the employee rather than the employer for the first time in a while. It's an opportunity that people can take advantage of which will start to eat into the job vacancies, just needs a bit of time..
