It's always the risk you can't really see but lets not forget cobolt has many industrial uses other than lithium ion battery. It is playing a larger role in new lightweight alloys and also I read something about it being used in hydrogen fuel cells ( the next big thing ).

I found this graph from a 2016 article stating that only about 25% of cobolt goes into battery manufacure. Whilst this figure is obviously going to change a lot with the EV roll out I think there are likely new uses that may pop up for this interesting metal as well.

In short I think cobolt would still have a very bright future even in the event of a breakthrough battery disruptor
