Yes, a bad one can always happen. It comes down to mindset: is a person playing in the stock market for short term profits, gambling trying to predict day to day prices or are they in the stock market to buy a company (or part thereof)
Point one: buying/selling a share price
Point two: buying a real company with real people operating in the real world.
There is a place for both. What irks me though is many not all, proudly proclaiming to short a company, if asked, would say a balance sheet is something that covers their bed. No problem if wish to gamble, most lose at the end of the day, but don't do it on the pretence they have a wise financial mind.
