Shorten comes to aid of distraught mum after head-on crash

May 19, 2016: Bill Shorten has comforted the victims of a car accident that occurred near his motorcade near Maitland.

Minutes before he was due to make a roadside policy announcement, Bill Shorten has found himself comforting a distraught mother and child, after a car accident occurred next to his convoy.
The opposition leader’s entourage had pulled over on Cessnock Road in Testers Hollow, 5km north of Heddon Greta in the New South Wales Hunter Valley, just before 12.45pm today when two cars behind the motorcade collided.
A 33-year-old female driver and her two-year-old son were assessed at the scene by paramedics but both escaped injury.
Mr Shorten and Labor candidate for Paterson Meryl Swanson comforted pair, who reportedly then used Mr Shorten’s parked car to recover.
