I'm planning on buying a house soon, unfortunately will pay a ridiculous price for it, but even if I own a house later this year, I will still be celebrating if the absolute bejesus falls out of the bottom of it, for the same reasons you mention.

Unfortunately, Australia sucks for people who have been priced out of buying a home. You are stuck with spending a few hours a day of family time on expensive mobile traffic jam motorways to get to where the jobs are. For these people, i.e. most of the newer generations, Australia is not the lucky country.

Seeing the whole filthy system get annihilated, SMSF's buying property, highly geared investors, banks etc, despite potentially owning my own house and losing a lot of asset value, would still bring me great satisfaction and bring housing back to what it is supposed to do for the next generation.
