I don't believe Trump has destroyed the GOP, it is being refashioned. It's the development of an increasingly global economy, which underlines political developments.
IMO, the globalization of production has not "destroyed the GOP" but it has destroyed the national reformist program which basically all western Democratic parties were based on (Lib,Lab,GOP, Dem, Tory, SocDem etc). A certain "class compromise" was able to exist or be tolerated during the post war boom.
But beginning in the 80's Thatcher, Reagan, Hawke/Keating began to claw back past gains and reforms. The "left/labor" parties continued the destruction of living standards, health, education, utilities etc and the union bureaucracy betrayed every struggle. . Privatisation, the subordination of social needs to private profiteering is the policy of every party (Uber everything). War overseas, austerity at home.
There is no going back. International capital scours the globe for the cheapest labour, lowest taxes. The political framework of capitalism is moving rapidly to the right and far right. War and inequality is incompatible with Democracy and the GOP is being refashioned as a party of state and fascist repression, because that is what capital requires, and the democrats will cave in to them at every point.
