my old man never hit me he'd just send me to my room and it was rather ineffective from memory, but I remember going around one of my mates houses a few times and his parents use to have a bit of wood with nails in it which was supposedly the back up plan if the belt didn't work, as far as I know the bit of wood never got used, but you can bet I was on my absolute best behaviour around that house, some people need to toughen up, no doubt the odd parent takes it too far, but then again no doubt the odd kid takes it too far too, it's surely a fine line
