The cat has been adopted and is relieved to get a food supply from you.
As such it has retired from the rough business of food sourcing.
Lots of species which previously would be predators and prey, co-exist when they have a guaranteed food supply.
An adopted cat of mine wouldn't start eating the food until she'd thanked me. By a nudge and rub. This was entirely coming from her; I hadn't trained her to do it. When a housemate was left in charge of feeding her, he said she just looked at him and wouldn't eat. He didn't understand the thank you ritual and he should have stood nearby so she could nudge him. It confused her... He unfairly concluded she was stupid.
