Algorithmic trading in the Australian Share Market

an overview from retail shareholders perspective

With relaxation of foreign ownership laws in Australia a manipulated share market presents at least two outcomes:

    1. Retail shareholders lose portfolio value thus impacting on tax revenue from that source as well as impacting on the wealth of those in our society who have the highest degree of self-reliance.
    2. Foreign ownership of our countrys resources is attained below value cost to any overseas entity, the outcome of which has a negative economic impact on our Nation.

The guidelines, regulations and laws are already in place to prevent what is described in this document. Of considerable note is the perception by retail investors that the proper interpretation of those laws is in doubt, and that the capital market is subject to thousands of manipulative incremental trades every day.

A seemingly lack of any objective approach by ASX and ASIC to the apparent problem is either perceived as there being two rules or- that neither ASX nor ASIC possess the acumen to identify share price manipulation in the marketplace and to act accordingly

The questions therefore arise: Is there two rules, one for the major players and one for the retail shareholders? Does ASX quietly sanction the manipulative activities because it is self-serving? Do ASX and ASIC have the knowledge to properly police a forefront trading technology which incorporates hidden agenda trading algorithms?

This document is a demand from concerned retail shareholders that the activities herein described be investigated and assessed for fairness and legality. The information and comments herein contained are derived from numerous contributors and media sources, as well as from the market operator and watchdog themselves. It is presented without prejudice to our Members of Parliament for theirs to act upon, without intention, by any of the authors of the content, to imply wrongdoing on the part of the entities mentioned in the document.
