Is it the government? Or the people always going for the lowest price no mater where it came from? JMO but I would hate the government to start controlling which countries my purchases come from. It makes no difference if they do it with direct restriction or high tariffs. You mention Solar Panels. The government gave multiple low or no cost loans to US solar companies and every single company went BK costing the government allot. Trump enacted a high tariff on SP from China but did nothing to encourage the US manufacture of panels. So all it did is became a new tax no one could see. Before you complain and say government did nothing ( it usually is true) try and sit down and figure out what you want them to do and what the impact of your ideas might be. Again JMO but every time The government enacts a new rule it seems to have a side effect that hurts me.
When it comes to the government controlling things LESS is better.
