But hey with all those bonuses the directors awarded themselves, are they still relevant with the latest developments?

No one wanted to buy the company. Not surprising there was not a full takeover.
Then JC buys a handful of shares is this some kind of effort at reassurance to all the disappointed shareholders.

Not forgetting the fortunate who got in at ~8 cents and got out with an impressive profit when the share price rocketed. :)
