The generator is something that you would run a handful of times per year when there's a blackout. Less time running = less opportunity for things to break. The Zcell is 'always on'.

Are you seriously saying you'd pay $1500 to avoid having to go outside to manually check the fuel tank of the generator in the event of a (again, rare) blackout?

The bottom line is - everyone goes on and on about the importance of backup/blackout protection for them - but if they truly need it, they'd already have it. This is why your point about instant start/auto start/UPS is moot.

Yes I am seriously saying that I would pay $1500 to know when the genset automatically starts up at my business premise (which is not where I live).
If I am home at night or on the weekend, I would absolutely want to know when the genset starts at the office so I can plan to travel there to refill the fuel tank.

To my mind, buying battery backup is like buying insurance.
You don't do a ROI on it, and you never know if the day you need it is tomorrow.
