While it tells us nothing about the median value of sales or the markups achieved on each item, I was in the large MYR Melbourne CBD store earlier today and was pleased to see a queue of shoppers at the Giftorium on the 6th floor (in the hard-to-find Mural Hall, past the kids' 'Bluey' play area and in the international and local foods (as gifts) on the 5th floor.
An increased cost of living is affecting all of us but wages growth has been strong (albeit below CPI overall) so perhaps trading won't be as bad as I'd feared. It's early days as it's not even the 1st Sunday of Advent that Catholics celebrate.
