MYR has changed, and doesn't just attract shoppers aged (say) 55 and over.
One observes many women (and some males) in the 18-30 bracket in MYR, especially in the Melbourne CBD. In suburbs - the Parramattas and Chadstones - there may be more 31-54yo shoppers,. One of my children (young) bought a Christmas gift from MYR, as I'd introduced him to its site.
My guess is the older demographic (middle class and above) is not badly affected, or unaffected. The worry is 'will the herd mentality take over' and every group stop buying?
Hard to assess the young demographic: are they kids with parents of upper middle class and above, or are many renters without, or with limited access to, parental savings?
From the limited number of media articles and comments by well known retailer Mr Gerry Harvey, HVN is the most negatively affected.
