Hard to tell. They're pretty switched on though so if I've noticed it then they would have seen it coming.
David Jones is a shambles at the moment (IMO) so maybe the BoS figures for them was pretty bad and dragged the sector down. I had to cut through the one at Warringah Mall in Sydney a few days back and it was set up like Best and Less, but with more colourful clothes and less customers (!). I don't mind Best and Less occasionally for the kids clothes, but I'm not popping in there expecting to buy a $400 dress.
Grain of salt for the BoS figures also I think. They revised November's numbers fairly hard, so I would doubt their crystal ball for December was much better. Government staff still clock off for holidays way more than the private sector do.
