Nathanielsen held a meeting with the Danish Minister of Justice, Nick Hækkerup, on Thursday 2 December. The meeting was held as part of the collaboration with the national authorities to raise the level in the area of justice.- The area of justice is a Danish area of responsibility, but the Naalakkersuisut attaches great importance to the development being formulated and presented by Greenland. We therefore appreciate the dialogue with the Danish government. It is necessary to constantly clarify the need for the area of justice to be developed and at least be at the same level as in Denmark, says Naaja Nathanielsen after the meeting.At the meeting, Naaja H. Nathanielsen expressed the wish that Greenland be taken into account in the ongoing negotiations on the penitentiary system, especially with regard to the employment efforts in the institutions and regarding working conditions for the employees.In addition, the Greenlandic Minister of Justice maintained the desire for an increase in the framework of measures in the Criminal Code from 10 to 16 years, so that it will be possible to impose longer measures for the most serious crimes.Police stations do not have to be closed downThere has been some debate in the past about whether Kaangatsiaq needs a police station. Nathanielsen to inquire about whether closures of already existing police stations are planned according to the same logic. However, the Minister of Justice rejected it.Finally, Naaja H. Nathanielsen informed the Minister of Justice that the Naalakkersuisut is working on a new priority list, which will be published in the new year, and which will include a number of initiatives and new focus areas such as digital crimes.
