It would appear that any new policy will not apply to current licences/licencees and will therefore not affect existing exclusive prospecting licences (EPLs), mining licences and mineral deposit retention licences.
In addition, manganese has not been mentioned to date as a 'strategic mineral' and to be included in the NMP.
The exact nature and status of Shaw Rivers' licences for Otjozondu in Namibia could not be determined at the time of writing this post. An update from the company regarding licence applications, already approved licences and any discussions or representations they have had with the Namibian Ministry of Mines and Energy would be welcome. This would serve to reassure investors of their exposure.
Companies like Extract Resources and Paladin Energy have been very proactive in lobbying the Namibian government and subsequently keeping the market informed through regular press releases. This helps to reduce any uncertainty, which has been impacting on share prices.
