    Shaw River seemingly safe from new mineral licensing restrictions reportedly being imposed by the Namibian government. Effectively, the state will have exclusive exploration and mining rights.

    Reassurances have also been provided by Shaw River MD, Vincent Algar, in the latest Quarterly report (March 2011);

    "Shaw River is aware that there have been reported changes to Namibian Mineral Policy. Shaw River is currently of the
    understanding that it's existing rights and equity position in its Namibian manganese project would not be effected by the reported changes to Namibian Mineral Policy".

    The quarterly report makes for recommended reading and provides a great overview of Shaw Rivers' current activities. It highlights the diversification and value of their manganese portfolio in Australia and elsewhere, should any one of their projects experience delays in any form.

    As Robin Bromby points out in his article, it is a reminder of the potential sovereign challenges that can be experienced when undertaking business and investment in Africa. Let's hope this does not eventuate to be the case in Namibia, with so much to be gained by the country and her people in being a lower risk investment location.

    The newly strengthened Shaw River management team introduced in the quarterly report, certainly have their work cut out on the road to production.
