just been looking at the 'nanographene' web site.
putting Boris's colourful history aside the following extract is from their site.
"The graphene market is currently at an early stage of development, with a wide range of prices, offers and goals. Not long ago, producers had only one simple goal: make graphene at any price, whether through adhesive exfoliation or chemical processes. The early results included extremely expensive graphene with unpredictable properties, production techniques that were not scaleable and sometimes very harmful to the environment. Thus the goal of universal graphene adoption ran into a series of obstacles:
NanoGraphene found a solution to all three problems with our patented production method.
The basis of NG’s technique is the exfoliation of graphene plates from a larger sample of natural or synthetic graphite. This method involves the interaction of concentrated cavitation fields in a working solution of water and source graphite. The process takes place at low temperatures of 46 degree Celsius or less, and does not require the use of chemicals. Water from the working solution can be recycled and re-used multiple times. The single-stage simplicity of this method allows NG to produce graphene in industrial quantities at low cost."
it appears to me that the Nanographite company itself (assuming it is a genuine player) is a start up looking for investors who believe in its process. Funny though that many millions have been spent by very serious players looking for an economical way to produce graphene of reliable quality, so Nanographene's claim to be able to produce industrial quantities of graphene at low cost with a simple process is a big claim. FWIW I doubt their claim given the efforts of many others far better resourced.
IMO VRC simply have a small contract with an obscure company looking to promote their graphene project. Maybe it's the best/only deal VRC can bring to the table in very tough times for graphite.
