While the reviews were mixed, I picked up a copy of Peter A J van der Made's book, "Higher Intelligence: How to Create a Functional Artificial Brain". While it is a very technical read, I think it gives some insight as to where the founder of Brainchip wants to eventually take the technology.

One of the anecdotes describes a scanned human mind being uploaded into one of these stacks of silicon that can approach the complexity of the human brain. He notes, "A synthetic brain like this will require artificial senses, or it will exist in darkness and silence. Lacking any stimulus, feeling, or excitement it will go quietly and utterly insane. A brain needs to be stimulated to function."

I think the concept is both fascinating, but also pretty frightening as well. Hopefully, in the near future, we'll stick with applications that use the Akida technology to hone one sense fairly well, like its use with Na-nose or Magik Eye.
