Actually the idea that your local GP could have a hand held device sitting on his desk that would tell him and the patient whether the patient has a viral or a bacterial infection leave aside what type of viral or bacterial infection instantly would mean that the over prescription of antibiotics could be dramatically reduced ie; to zero.
Antibiotics do not work on viruses so the years of being prescribed just to make patients feel like the Doctor is treating them will be an instant thing of the past.
In fact this device could be linked to the PBS system in Australia and prevent the issue of a prescription in such circumstances without a specific approval being given.
Governments would mandate the use of this device as it would save huge amounts of money in the health system and also start to control antibiotic resistance.
