The way things are shaping up globally, it’s obvious drones and edge AI are no longer just buzzwords, they’re fast becoming critical tech, especially in defence. Trump just signed a couple of executive orders that basically lay out the next phase for U.S. drone policy. One cracks down on dodgy drone activity, the other throws full support behind scaling domestic drone production, AI integration, and exports. They’re pushing for beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) approvals, AI-based waiver systems, even eVTOL aircraft testing. It’s not just talk, this stuff’s moving fast. Now layer that on top of the semiconductor situation. Tariffs are hitting Chinese chip imports hard some over 100% and that’s forcing companies to rethink their whole supply chain. U.S. policy is steering things toward energy-efficient, non-China-reliant chip tech. With the chip industry already shaken up from COVID shortages, now add tariff pressure and geopolitics, and it’s clear the door’s wide open for new players with the right tech.Meanwhile, on the battlefield Ukraine in particular AI-powered drone swarms are being used right now. These things operate autonomously, adjusting in real time, even when GPS is jammed or connectivity drops out. That only works if the AI runs directly on the drone, which means low power draw and serious efficiency are non-negotiable. You can’t run a flying AI system on cloud servers or wait for laggy comms. It’s got to be on-device, it’s got to be fast, and it’s got to last.Feels like everything’s lining up policy, war tech, chip supply, defence contracts. Probably worth keeping an eye on who’s actually building tech that fits where the world’s headed, not where it’s been.
