gsw is a saas company - r&d and employees is exactly what they should be spending their money on.
i work for a us based saas company.
the biggest risk we face is a product that is not scalable (we can't expand effectively into new markets, cannot effectively support large order volume around peak) nor stable (huge reliance on vendor APIs, numerous unresolved bugs etc). we are essentially Band-Aids and bolt ons thrown together based on promises made by Enterprise sales.
if we had 100 mil invested in product development (r&d) and the divisional CTO from IBM (employees) in this companies infancy, we would be infinitely more successful than we already are.
