TZ will also proceed with a $1 million share issue to the prominent advertising executive Siimon Reynolds, saying it provides much-needed working capital.

Asked about the shift in shareholder value to QVT, Mr Bouris said: ''I'm not disappointed. If this company had not done a deal with QVT the company would not exist.''

Asked if he regretted his involvement with TZ, he said: ''I never knew the company was in this position and, maybe if I knew, I wouldn't have done it. But I'm in it, and I have to see it to the natural end.''
