I am not sure why he made that comment.

What he said is true. It all comes down to the net asset value of the outstanding units in the fund. When you buy an ETF, the unit price simply reflects (or very closely) the NAV of each unit in the fund.

For instance, if you have a fund with greater assets under management and fewer unit holders - naturally the unit price is going to be greater. The reverse is true. Small asset pool with a larger group of unit holders - the unit price will be smaller.
