Indonesia is on the other side mate. It signed up to China's BRI years ago and it will likely prosper via te two way trade & Chinese investment in infrastructure. A friend spent 6 months there over a year ago overseeing QA on a Chinese sponsored narrow guage rail system and the Chinese have now taken over from the Russians as the preferred contractor for the Trans Burneo Railway System which will open up this mineral rich provence after deforestation.
if China wanted to have a go at us later , it would be by backing the Indos to have a bingle like what the US is doing with India to have a bingle at China. Since WW2 we've had proxy big Powers' Wars in Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan in the 80s, Iraq/iran war in the 80s and lately in the ME.
This is why i think our only real indonesian deterrant down the track is our own Nukes. because Indonesia has 12 times our Population and with Chinese backing would do us like a dinner mate.
