National loathing

The nation loathes politicians, they definitely loathe each other and I suspect they must loathe us.

The nation loathes banks, insurers, clergy and now aged care providers.

Liberal politicians, particularly conservatives, and too many liberal voters loathe the ABC.

Labor politicians and too many Labor voters loathe business.

Justin Milne loathes Michelle Guthrie, as well as his ABC staff, and the staff loathe him.

Next week there will be another loathing going viral on social media, and more will follow.

How did we become a nation of indignant, righteous loathers?

It’s depressing to watch.

The country, however, is blithe to it all, gives us all “the bird” and just powers along, despite everything, despite our worst collective efforts, and delivers wealth, welfare, safety, education, medical care, border protection, civil control, a legal framework, food production, scenery and globally envied liveability.

Is it that we don’t appreciate what we have and don’t presently deserve it?
