scaremongering about extra taxes is not very helpful. I believe the aim is to achieve a similar overall tax 'income' for the government but to (hopefully radically) reform the way it is collected. Significant reductions in personal income tax and small business tax would go hand in hand with any 'new' taxes. Sounds like a good idea to explore to me!
