I think it just make sense in this new brave world for government to takeover TLS. Outrageous? Unexpected? Unbelievable? Yes, but:
- Government already has a substantive shareholding in TLS- 16%; it is a good start;
- there are many willing sellers at the right price, say $5.50 per share;
- Government could then do what it wants with the TLS assets, including sell the 50% in Foxtel to Paker, Murdoch, Stokes; sell Sensis; sell TLS retail business; use the existing TLS infrastructure, including already substantial fibre and deliver its NBN cost effectively.
- if nationalisation of banks doesn't scare any one any more, I don't think the nationalisation of a strategic infrastructure would be politicly to difficults to put through;
Makes a lot of sense to me.
