The health departments across the Australian states are overhauling the medical records management at public hospitals in preparation for a nationwide online system. In New South Wales (NSW), this coincides with an upgrading of the ITsystems at some 180 hospital sites, and will cost $A80m. Craig Smith, deputy CIOat NSW Health, notes this is the second phase of a major initiative, and will bebuilding on earlier roll-outs.
