I happen to like eating natto, I buy it from my local Asian supermarket. It is imported into Australia from Japan in a frozen state. The packets are cheap and very small in quantity and usually come with small servings of vinegar and mustard to mix into it.
The cooked soybeans are inoculated with a bacterial culture of Bacillus natto, a spore forming organism. It forms a copious quantity of slime that surrounds the beans.
K vitamins are produced by bacteria.
