Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT PGN Tbk continues to develop the use of natural gas, one of which is through the integration of infrastructure management, both pipeline and beyond pipeline, and natural gas commodities to be able to answer the challenges in the downstream sector of clean energy.
PGN Group Head, Gas, and LNG Supply Muhammad Anas Pradipta in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday, said that the integration of infrastructure management and gas commodities will further provide reliability, flexibility, and affordability of the interconnection of market centers that are getting stronger.
"With this integration, we are ready to make adjustments in terms of operating patterns so that natural gas services can be more flexible, then from the market side it can be easier to get supply certainty. This year, the introduction of LNG products and beyond pipeline services into PGN's existing market is an enabler for quick wins according to the dynamics that occur on supply conditions, demand, and the gas business environment," he said.
Anas continued that the fulfillment of natural gas from Sumatra to Java will be more sustainable in the future through the integration of transmission pipelines.
Meanwhile, looking at the geographical challenges and availability of existing LNG terminals, PGN is designing a small-scale LNG mode.
"The LNG transportation mode can provide natural gas needs for existing market centers. Indeed, the challenge is the condition of scattered demand, so this is a challenge from the supply chain side. However, we will still do it as a solution for gas distribution in central and eastern Indonesia," explained Anas.
The development of LNG infrastructure, one of which is an LNG hub, is also aimed at answering the challenge of supply & demand imbalance.
The LNG Hub will be a key enabler in strengthening the reliability and availability of natural gas distribution as a transitional energy.
LNG infrastructure currently owned by PGN throughout Indonesia includes FSRU Lampung (240 MMSCFD), FSRU West Java (500MMSCFD), LNG RT in Lhokseumawe, Aceh (400 MMSCFD), and LNG Lamong (25-30 BBTUD).
The planning of the LNG hub located in Arun, which is located on an international trade route, is asset optimization and in accordance with the strategic plan to adjust the potential for oil and gas field development in the future.
Through Perta Arun Gas, PGN is currently revitalizing one unit of LNG tanks and is expected to be operational in 2025.
PGN also plans to develop LNG bunkering in several locations such as Arun, Tanjung Priok and Bontang.
The target in the short term is bunkering in Bontang which can serve LNG fueled vessels with a capacity of 1,000-15,000 m3 on shipping routes through the Makassar Strait to Australia (efficiency of 2-3 days) with an operational target of 2026.
In addition to building an LNG hub, the mechanism to overcome the supply & demand imbalance is through the development of retail businesses with CNG and LNG modes based on customer categories (volume) and the distance between the supply location and customer demand.
Furthermore, it is a mapping of petrol station locations throughout Indonesia (24 petrol stations owned by PGN and Pertamina) with a potential customer need of 15.5 BBTUD, which can be served using CNG.
CNG services and retail market penetration also allow the use of cylindrical tubes with a capacity of 24 m3.
The projected gas demand reaches 0.5 BBTUD, which requires 1,320 cylinders. Meanwhile, the LNG supply chain uses iso tanks, which have been run in Bontang by PT Pertagas Niaga.
"Planning synergy with industrial estates is the key to optimizing the use of natural gas as a transitional energy," said Anas.
According to him, PGN's gas management so far has been almost 60 percent for industry.
"If PGN's quick win efforts are synergistic and can become an orchestration of blueprint planning for national natural gas service stakeholders, we are confident and committed that expanding natural gas access by making industrial estates an anchor for natural gas absorption, which can give birth to a multiplier effect, which is significant for the national economy," he said.
This, continued Anas, will also increase the effectiveness and efficiency of natural gas infrastructure development in the future which will have an impact on the downstream gas economy received by all stakeholders and the natural gas service chain.
