where i was raised in rural nsw on the fringe of sydney and the warragamba catchment, there were platypus, wombats, echidnas, wedge tail eagles, hawkes, wrens, kingfishers, death adders, koalas, wallabys, rock wallabys, bilbys, parrots, galas, cockatoos, native plants and fish you could see the bottom of the river, frogs, lizards of all types historically these areas were logged the bush remained bush with active wildlife.

logging was every where in early australia it created pastureland and provided timber for every conceivable purpose,
i mixed with loggers and i must say they seem a pretty responsible group interested in the environment and the natural habitats of our flora and fauna, afterall the limited amount of land set aside for logging is their livelihood something to be preserved and conserved to enable continuation.

so what destroyed the natural habitat of my childhood,i would have to say it was warragamba dam its creation for the greater needs of sydney isolated the habitat of my childhood preventing the fauna from migrating deeper into the vast surrounding bush, and with this isolation came degradation of the nepean not from farmers as they would like you to believe but urbanisation bringing detergent ,dogs, cats and worst of all people who have no interest in bush beyond the pleasant scenery it creates, while they litter the environment with their recreational waste, beer bottles ,plastic bags, toxic chemicals i could go on like this for hours but i am sure you get the drift ,I HAVE NOT SWUM IN THE NEPEAN RIVER FOR OVER 30YEARS,THE BUSH I LOVED HOUSES FERAL CATS AND STRAY DOGS,and a good dose of feral people.

people have destroyed the habitat i remember, not loggers, not farmers, but boring urbane people who in all probability never give a thought to the real cost of water, people like so many greenies who think you can support growing populations without pesticide ,hebicide, fertiliser, and raw materials some years ago my old mate who goes back to the days of horse and cart went to Longreach in the middle of QLD,THE JOURNEY was the interesting part pondering the difficulties of pioneers and on the way i noticed wedge tail eagles every 19kilometres you would see a nest on the power poles and what was interesting was they lived on roadkill i assume their territory is about a 8 kilometre radius allowing for territorial buffer kilometres,so much for natural habitat.

so i accept that their will be casualities of habitat i also accept the tasmanian government are acting responsibily
within the context of managing land use for a sustainable future for a growing population.

i bought gunns as an investor/trader and can see no long term future in harvesting from natural bush, i firmly believe in plantations, unsightly they may be unserving to our flora and fauna but contained and managed will provide
a sustainable outcome for our growing population,i dislike cats of any breed and would gladly see them neutered to extinction in australia with the exception of a native cat but i doubt there are any left, after cats i would seek control over the dog population, asian minors these are the
enemies of our habitats, carp, green lawns etc

the only responsible australians were the inhabitants of terra nullis but no one took any notice of them especially in tasmania and nor would their practices support 25million people.

so there you have my green views, i would rather the environments of my childhood sadly this will not be in my lifetime and may well, never be again
