That's what it takes. For a TCP/IP package it takes up to 0.5 seconds because it needs to travel up - down - up - down. It is a major problem for online gaming and a bit of an issue with VOIP. Nothing too bad, really. Not for what the majority of users anyway and certainly not for customers like oil/gas companies or mining. As TG said, I'd rather have fast broadband with latency than no broadband at all...
