Even the govt commissioned nbn report said that in order to make a paltry return of 6%, everything had to go well - including a 70-80% uptake. This compares with figures of 30-40% overseas. When everything has to go just right to make a business case work, disaster can't be far away.
And the govt report failed to consider why we actually need 100mb pipes to every home etc. Classic case of confusing needs with wants.
They could save the Murray basin 10 times over with what they are prepared to spend on the nbn. A pipeline gravity feeding waste water from Tasmania's hydro schemes across Bass Strait into the Murray Basin could be built for around $4bn.
