The NBN was Rudd’s baby, his gift to Australia.
Unfortunately his preferred white elephant was ludicrously expensive compared to the ludicrously expensive basic model that Turnbull implemented.
Both options, I seem to remember had detractors.
The common theme being that they would be out of date and useless before they could be completed but the shortsighted grab for votes on both sides of the house plus our population wanting faster better quicker without thinking of the cost, practicality or even the ability of the systems meant we were gonna get one or the other.
It could be said to be the only major public works project that the Feds have tried since (thinking music playing.....), since I don’t know when?
Imagine if Rudd or the then opposition had suggested spending that sort of coin on drought proofing/pipelines from the north to south?
How much more bang for our buck could we have gotten?
Private enterprise would have nutted out the speeds of net anyway.
