Glug - thanks for adding some numbers. Where did you get your VOIP bandwidth from, I had worked out a figure less than 1-10th that even with video.

Do you really think all internet TV is going to be 1080P Video, I thought that was more likely just for big entertainment, more likely basic HD for most channels.

Remote business, what is that exactly for 2.5Mbps, I had more like 1Mbps not counting video communications which would be included as a beefed up VOIP.

So your 20Mbps is simultaneously 2 1080P Video TV's, 2 phones, remote business link all simultaneous, and no room for the other things you listed. But the things you listed like downloading movies, keeping in touch with family, entertainment persuits are already included above, and would not be simultaneous. None of those would require more than 1080P Video that I have seen.

How many people average per household? I still think the most bandwidth is each person using HD video, which is not required in most cases. 1080P Video for skype may look nice but would it make it better, enough to pay for the hardware (like $2000 per camera isn't it?) And I noticed that most basic HD home video cameras now seem to use interlacing again, so even basic HD video may not be much of an improvement.

Also 10Mbps is a minimum figure for fibre to the node, just what I am used to here. If you download your 1080P Movie while you eat dinner then you get by fine on 10Mbps with what you mentioned above. Or if you watch it on demand why not sit down as a family and watch the same movie every now and then! Is it really a picture for the future to have each person in the house in their own solitary room with their own video link for work, education, and entertainment.

So maybe what you suggest is pushing 10Mbps, but it is no where near 100 - 1000Mbps. Doing fibre to the node would get us the best of it for what we need 90% of the time. We would get it in 2-3 years, and could anytime it was needed upgrade that to fibre to the home.

All the numbers for pushing bandwidth are just better video, none of the new applications suggested involving medical and educational, monitoring, and business seem to be more than a video link. So each person gets a video link while maintaining broadband internet browsing. Nothing truly worthy of a dream.
