nbn is a disaster, page-181

Most of the existing fibre suppliers such as Uecomm, Amcom etc in CBD target large corporate and Government customers and have very high service level agreements, no download limits etc. They certainly charge a lot more than the proposed $40- $50 per month that is being talked about as an NBN price. NBN will only get around 6-8% ROI but as the Fed govt borrow this on world markets there will still be a small profit for NBN. The existing fibre suppliers are most likely making around 30% ROI. If you look at the Amcom reports (ASX AMM) then they are doing very nicely.

It is the intention to use the existing ducts for the fibre in residential areas. If there is not enough room in the ducts then they will need to pull out the copper and rehaul the fibre. I can see this as a bit of an issue for down time though. The point being that Telstra will not want to continue to maintain an aging copper network plus all the exchange switching for just a few customers.

There is a lot of information on this topic at whirlpool.net.au
